  • This family started in Audincourt, France, and was a pioneer settler of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Most of the family remains in the Fort Wayne area to this day, though the family has remained small-to-medium in size. Their most notable business in that city was the Parrot Meat Packing company. Current surnames are Parrot and Parrott.

There are other families that also came from Audincourt: see families 14 and 18. At this point, it is not possible to tell based on the paper record alone if these families are related. Therefore, a Y-DNA test from each would be the best way to tell.

    • DNA testing needed for this family. If you are a male from this line, sign up to get tested and thus help uncover its history and origins.

Notes: GEO. J. PARROTT KILLS SELF
    ------------
WAS DESPONDENT BECAUSE OF POOR BUSINESS AND ILL HEALTH.
    ------------
Cut His Throat With a Razor-Body is Found in the Maumee River, Near the Coombs Street Bridge.

George J. Parrott, prominent local photography and art store proprietor, killed himself some time Saturday Morning by cutting his throat with a razor. He was despondent over poor business and continued ill health, and had several times lately threatened to take his life. His body was found in the Maumee river, yesterday morning, near the Coombs street bridge by Louis Gladbach, 1716 Erle street, who was walking along the bank of the river.

Gladbach, while looking down the river, noticed a derby hat lodged against a tree, about eight feet from the shore. He called to Max Kruse, who was in a boat on the opposite side of the river. Mr. Kruse rowed over to Gladbach and the two then went out to investigate. They found that the hat covered the body of Mr. Parrott, held upright against a limb of the tree in five feet of water. They brought up the body to the short (sic) and notified the police.

Mr. Parrott left his home, at 2019 Crescent avenue, at 8:30 o'clock Sunday morning. Between that time and 9 o'clock he was seen walking back and forth on the Coombs street bridge by Mr. Conroy. The supposition is that he stood on the river bank as he cut his throat and that his body then dropped into the water. His jugular vein was severed. The razor with which he cut his throat has not been cut and is presumed to have fallen into the water. The body was found 400 feet east of the bridge.

Ordinarilty Mr. Parrott was of a very happy, congenial disposition. He was liked by everyone who knew him. During the last few months, however, he had become very gloomy and morose. His business conditions are said to have been the cause of this change in his disposition.

Mr. Parrott was 45 years old. He attended the Cathedral Boy's school and then took up photography which he made his life work. He had conducted a photographic studio in his city for the last twenty - five years. His last place of busisness was at 216 West Berry street, and there he also conducted an art store. He was a member of the Cathedral congregation, the Holy Name societty (sic), the Knights of Columbus and the French-American society, and he was promitent in state and national photographic circles. At one time he was president of the Indiana State Photographers' association.

Surviving are the wife, two sons, Myron and Leland; one daughter, Lois; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Geiger, of Chicago, and Mrs. Mary Parning, of Alhambra, Cal.; and three brothers, John, of Flint, Mich., and Louis and Franck, of this city.
